LGBTQ Rapper Imerald Brown Releases New Track, Cherries

Queer Black Artist Imerald Brown has released a new single, “Cherries.” And we’re big fans.

We caught up with Imerald (she / her) to learn a little more about the inspiration for her newest track.

“I was inspired to write Cherries because I’m learning to be less serious and embrace joy and pleasure in a way that feels more revealing of myself,” says Imerald. “Cherries is a sex positive song and the subject isn’t something I write about frequently. In many ways it’s therapeutic because I’m exploring my thoughts surrounding sex and allowing myself the opportunity to let go and find freedom where I’m quite reserved nowadays.”

Imerald Brown (she/her), born in Oakland, CA, is a multifaceted and complex artist. Imerald Brown’s lyricism is a reflection of past life experiences, themes of societal struggle, love and relationships and personal growth. Imerald Brown started off writing poetry, then melodic songs. Eventually, Imerald Brown created raps. She also published collection of poetry, skits, and monologues.
